Restoration Project ~ Enhancement of Spawning Ground
Back to the Objectives Page

Enhancing the Natural Salmon Spawning Grounds ~
To complement the work of the hatchery, we require the construction of smolt traps in key positions to remove migrating smolts before they encounter hydroscheme turbines and run the gauntlet of predators (mammalian, avian and piscean) on the way downstream.

Similarly, the purchase and construction of nets and traps for collecting returning adults is a must. This will both supply the hatchery and give us the ability to taxi adults beyond man made obstacles direct to the spawning grounds. To ensure the long term success of these projects some assistance towards the bodies undertaking these tasks would greatly help.

We require equipment including hand nets and chest waders as well as consumables like fuel to cover the considerable distances from source to sea whilst transporting ova, fry, smolts and adults.

These objectives can be met with funding in the region of £4,000
